Meet Lisa Wilcke

Posted by on May 18, 2020

TAT has facilitators located across the state of Oregon. All facilitators are Iindependent contractors. We miss our teachers and students and we miss teaching! Over the next few months, TAT facilitators will be profiled so you can get to know a little about these dedicated educators. Today, we meet Lisa Wilcke.

Lisa says, “Since joining Talk About Trees for fall of 2015 I have immersed myself in the world of trees, setting out to learn everything I can about not just trees but the environments in which they live. I am very partial to native trees, a bit ironic since I am a Seattle transplant-as-a-child myself. Whether learning about the absurdities of the traditions around tree names or the fascinating history of the Willamette Valley ponderosa pine, I find it difficult to keep these informational treasures to myself and LOVE sharing them with kids, teachers, parents or really anyone who will listen. Through my knowledge-quest, I took part in Portland Parks Tree Survey and then became a Neighborhood Tree Steward, a Neighborhood Tree Team Leader and recently lobbied the Portland Parks Department to set up a pop-up arboretum in Berrydale Park for the month of July – If you find yourself in the Portland area in July, I highly recommend taking a self-guided tour, the conifers in the park are AMAZING! If allowed, the Montavilla Tree Buds will be offering guided walks through the park on Saturday mornings 7/11, 7/18 & 7/25 at 10:00. The walks are perfect for all ages.”

“In addition to Talking About Trees I continue to work as a teaching artist in fused glass and completed a school community mural this winter which was hung just in time for the school closings but you can hop over to my website and take a peek.”
